Require Learner Participation Instructor: Hannah L. Mills Student Practice Activities The expectations from each student during the lesson requires students to be responsible for their learning and engaged through motivation. In our classroom we understand that students should have an opinion about their assignments and always produce a product or realistic/intentional thinking. As the lesson started students were asked to jot down their thoughts and skills previously used on their whiteboards. This helps promote student thinking and project based learning as we move the lesson into creating a PicCollage. Throughout the lesson students were able to utilize their issued iPads from Horry County Schools and become familiar with USATestPrep and other apps they would be utilized to complete their projects.
Students will remain engaged through the lesson because of the components planned with the lesson to help students feel they have authentic purpose when creating their products. Students also have the opportunity to be challenged while also moving up levels and earning badges/coins within the program to keep up with student reflection and success. Once student's are able to self-reflect then the next week I will begin pulling small groups to differentiate the lesson to help all learners!
Feedback Feedback is given and provided to students through feedback communication and color cards. If students are given a green color card that lets them know they are ready to move onto the next level. If students are given a yellow card then that means they are in need of reviewing their work. If students are given a red card that means they will need to meet me at the carpet when students are asked to make their groups for the PicCollage section of the project. This will help students not feel embarrassed and the message of progress is still being conveyed in a very respectful way. Once students turn in their Pic Collage project using our Google Classroom platform I will be able to use private comments to return student work so that they can reflect and improve on any suggestions given. Their parents will also have access to this and can review work while at home. Parents will also see graded work on PowerSchool and this helps send a clear communication to parents as well as they want to see the grade align with the work turned in by their child.
