Assessment of Learner Achievement As the lesson progressed I was able to focus in on areas of weakness and achievement in many ways. First, I was able to watch their progress as we orally made connections aloud to previous context clues skills. Next, I was able to see how students performed when practicing at a basic level using USATestPrep. Not only did we start students at a basic level but we were able to challenge them and see what their next steps were as they continued through this program. Lastly, I was able to challenge students using the DOK wheel of the creation of a project while using strategies and examples in their Pic Collage. Overall, students were able to be pulled into small groups for various levels and the use of small group instruction from the teacher was beneficial in identify students that needed extra support.
Evaluation of Strategies and Resource Through this lesson looking back I felt that students truly enjoyed the steps that were used through the lesson. Students understood and felt comfortable to ask for help and use assistance from their peers throughout the lesson. I received compliments and comments from students that asked if we had another project could we use PicCollage when presenting our work. This led me to believe that students felt they had an opinion and a choice in the way they wanted to create their final project. Students also enjoyed the challenge of level changes as they used USATestPrep to earn coins but answer questions that were based on a third grade level accessing the South Carolina standards. The three levels that the program offered helped students feel that they could work on their own level while also feeling the benefits of achieving a level and moving to the next challenge. This in my opinion helped students stay engaged and feel the steps were in real time as they earned coins and could use those coins at the online game store. Overall, I felt this lesson was engaging and appropriate for my third grade students no matter the level of expertise they had before or during the lesson!
