Watching the video of how gaming is more than just a high score truly inspired me. A.C. Williams sets out to challenge the stereotypes of what it means to be a gamer and how playing games can truly make you feel engaged within a community. William provokes viewers to revisit our stereotypic minds of what gamers may be like and welcome people in, to gain new knowledge to then see why he is so passionate about creating a community full of gamers who can compete and collaborate together!
I enjoyed listening to Mr.Williams speak from experience. In my opinion many times people are quick to give their opinions on a subject without seeing the whole picture of what interests others such as gaming with the ability to bring others together. Williams is a leader through Nintendo in which he is responsible for designing in person gaming tournaments. Yes, IN PERSON! Williams speaks on how those that play video games do more than just, "sit in their mom's basement." In fact he brings the discussion of how he is able to bring like minded people with common interests into one place and bond! Now think....For those that love sports, watches many games on TV, and then attends the game live. Is this considered an addiction? On the course of a weekend while college football plays all Saturday and NFL games play all Sunday, our world today can watch that on TV for hours.... Yet we do not hear many arguments of this being harmful. I am a HUGE fan of football but I also see how these two (sports vs gaming) relate in activities but the criticism comes more to those that play video games. What do you think is fair? "Competition gives gamers the courage and drive to go out of their comfort zone. This gives them the confidence to share new experiences and find themselves as a person." William brings up a great point when he restates that playing video games creates a community for players to find their passion and voice. The repetitive playing of practice, practice, practice, is revealed when gamers do not stop as they want to find success at reaching new levels by not giving up. This is a lesson that we all could learn! |
